INTRODUCTION :- The wine was consumed by the ancient Egyptians. The Egyptians were inspired by the Levant, which had been producing wine since 4000 BC. An old wine cellar was discovered in a cave on the mountainside in Armenia. The cellar, which dates back to 3500 BC, displays old winemaking techniques.
Wine is much older than that. In 2004, in old pottery over 9000 years old, fluid was found in China. What were the contents of all those ancient pots? They were loaded with wine made up of rice, honey, and fruit. The Chinese were preparing sangria long before the wine was invented.
Take a look at some of the world’s most historic wineries. These operating relics demonstrate how wine has been with us for millennia and will remain with us for millennia to come.
Château de Goulaine
The Goulaine family-owned Château de Goulaine except from 1788 to 1858, when it was sold to Dutch financiers during the French Revolution. Goulaine produces Loire Valley white wines such as Muscadet and Foole Blanche and is one of the last castles in the Loire to produce wine mostly.
Barone Ricasoli
Barone Ricasoli was established in the year 1141. A Tuscan family owned this castle when Florence and Siena were still city-states. The Ricasoli was able to endure Italy’s internal strife in the mid – the 1200s, the Black Death in the mid-1300s, the Medici’s ascent until the 1700s, and World War II. Their most prominent wine, “Castello di Brolio,” is currently available for around $70.
Schloss Johannisburg
Schloss Johannisberg was established in 1100. During Charlemagne’s reign in the late 700s, an order of 6000 liters of wine was recorded. During the German Peasant War in 1525, marauding peasants destroyed Schloss Johannisberg. It is home to some of the world’s oldest Riesling vineyards and the first late-harvest wines, which were produced in 1775. Previously noble rot grapes were not considered appropriate for winemaking.
Schloss Vollrads
In 1211, a thirsty monastery in Mainz placed a written order for wine from Schloss Vollrads, making it the oldest known sale of wine from the estate. The Rheingau winery makes a variety of Riesling wines.
Codorniu
Codorniu was established in the year 1551, and it is the first sparkling wine house in Spain that has no bubbly in its wine. It has had vines and winemaking facilities since the mid-1500s, but Codorniu began producing Cava in the 1820s, referring to it as Champagne. Codorniu is now one of the world’s top three Cava manufacturers, with about 5 million cases of yearly production.
